Oklahoma Black Physicians Alliance
Summary
This is one of my favorite projects I've had the opportunity to work on--namely because a directory of black physicians is a resource I wish I had access to for a long time. However a directory website can be challenging to complete so it was a great learning experience putting this together.
Client Overview
OBPA is a collective of Black Physicians partnering to address health disparities and promote health education within the Black community. Additionally, the mission of this women-led organization is to endeavor to enhance the personal and professional connections of Oklahoma's Black physicians.
The Problem
The focus of OBPA was to create a site where people can browse and find black physicians near them or who specialize in what they need, as well as house the content they create for their community (blog posts and live streams). This was my first project where I built a directory website. It included much research to ensure everything flowed functionally between the different tab panes (regions). It was also essential to consider the information available about each physician due to the fact that we wanted to allow people to submit physicians who may not already be included on the list. It was also essential to consider the website visitors' psychology when looking for a physician. Since there are so many different types of physicians with different specialties who are also based in different parts of the state, I had to decide how to categorize them in a way that makes sense to our visitors.
The Solution
I decided to split the physician directory into the various regions of the state so that people can first know what doctors are around them. And secondly, after looking up their respective region, visitors can still search for specific physicians if they haven't found what they're looking for. We created a collection for the different pieces of information we wanted to associate with each physician. We also created a contact form with these exact same fields that will allow us to add new physicians upon approval.
